Actually, everyone will see your shoes when the groom takes the garter off your leg at the wedding reception, if this is something you plan on doing.
Wear a simple white satin shoe that will match the dress, something with a low comfortable heel. By the end of the day, your feet will hurt from standing so much, so comfort is important.
I wore just white satin pumps, but then quickly changed into “bridal tennis shoes” which were white tennis shoes that my dad embellished with lace, pearls, etc.
Those were the shoes that everyone “saw” – no one saw my heels – and I was proud of them. Not only were they comfy, but they were a cute surprise under my more formal gown when my feet did show during dancing/garter/etc.. And I liked that my dad had made them.
In retrospect, I almost wish I had just worn those all along and therefore had my dress fitted to not be too long with flats. LOL
I bought a pair of dyeables and didn’t dye them- I liked the style and they were comfortable (to me, anyway). Wear nice shoes, but don’t spend $100’s of dollars on them. People will catch a glimpse here and there, but no one will be staring at them, unless you have a short gown.
I have a personal pet peeve about brides in sneakers or flip flops. Why spend thousands on the dress, hair, makeup and veil, only to wear tennies under all of it?
if you are gonna have your husband remove your garter they might see your shoes, but i still don’t thing will be looking to see what shoes you have on.
I wore white flip flops ($2 at Walmart). No one saw my shoes because my stupid dress wouldn’t bustle because the bustling hooks were broke off of it somehow, so I and everyone else just tripped over my dress and train all day and night – that’s all!
I agree with mom, unless you do the garter toss then no one can really see your shoes. As for my wedding, I wore six inch stilletto heels. They were peep toe and had tiny diamonds across the top. My dress was too long and the tall shoes were the only solution.
I wasn’t the one getting married (only 21, in college and definately not ready to tie the knot just yet..) but, my cousin wore white flats with her wedding gown. They were really cute and she even took the shoes to a stylist and had them designed with similar fabric and details that the gown had. In the end they weren’t seen that much until she dressed in her afterparty dress. But she wanted to be comfortable while she was walking up the alter and saying her vows. What would you rather remember? How badly your feet hurt or just being comfortable and focused on what’s going on. You are the center of attention, so enjoy it!
I’ve also seen a few brides wear small white tennis shoes for the ceremony, since no one would really see them anyway. Good Luck!
No. The only time they will see your shoes is if you are wearing a short skirt or if you do a garter removal/toss.
One tip I have read that many brides tend to ignore is that if you plan to change shoes for the reception, get your dress altered to the shorter shoes (whether those are flip flops, ballet flats or even barefoot) since the dress will no longer be at the height it was when the seamstress measured it when you wore heels. Because of the change in height, when you take off your heels, the dress will drag and get dirty. You’ll trip, your guests will step on it. At some point it’ll probably get ripped. You can prevent all that by getting it altered to the shorter length.
Even brides that had garter tosses at past weddings, I couldn’t tell you what kind of shoes they wore which shows how important they are. Get something you love that are both pretty and comfy. Break them in at home.
My wedding is in February.. I bought shoes that have a wide heel so that I will not have to worry about whether or not I will trip. I also bought some fuzzy white slippers just incase my feet do begin to hurt!
I’m not married, but I’d love to wear crocs for my big day! They are actually the only brand of shoe I wear. I have them in navy, khaki, red, and black.
My dream wedding shoe:
I’d think they’d only see the shoes during the garter toss or if the dress was ankle lenght or shorter.
I’m planning on getting my feet painted with henna by a professional and going barefoot for the ceremony. I’ll probably put on some short brown heels for the reception (my dress is maroon)
Generally people only get a glimpse of the front of your shoe as you walk and that is about it.
I was considering either wearing a pair of pearl coloured shoes I already have that are really comfortable or wearing shoes that match my bridesmaids dresses. The contrast can be nice.
I wore my Crocs. No one could see my shoes… and it was cold and snowy. I did make everyone laugh after it was all over when I showed them the shoes though. My husband thought it was the cutest thing ever.
my best friend is from India, and while she’s over there for christmas vacation, she’s getting me specially made white indian shoes (the ones that have sequins all over them-kind of)
she called me last night and told me, i’m excited!
I wore white slippers. My youngest daughter wore white ked sneakers and she had wrote all over them with a red fabric pen things like I love Neil ect. so that when he saw them ( during the garter thing ) he would smile. Also, My and my daughter feet felt great all day!
I wore white silk ballet looking slippers. Other than him taking off the garter no one will see your shoes. And all woman know how uncomfortable heels are so why suffer the day/night of your wedding ? Seriously.
with my first wedding I wore white satin pumps with a 2″ heel….they had a slender satin ’strap’ across the top ending in a side buckle decorated with rhinestones and looked perfect with the dress …and they were seen everytime I lifted my skirts…and for the garter toss….
my second wedding I wore a beaded dressy pants suit in garnet red, and since it was a second wedding…and the bride a mother of 4 adults and in her 50’s- I wore a pair of strappy black patent leather dress sandals with a 21/2 inch heel….comfortable and kinda sexy…..
no one sees the shoes they are all to focused on how pretty you and your groom look! I know I am just going to wear white pretty flip-flops or while flats my feet hurt so much in my tennis shoes so I want a happy feet for my happy day.
I wore some really cute kitten heels, they were really heavily beaded on the front and very pretty. When I got to the reception I had to take them off though, the venue said we could not wear shoes inside because of the flooring.
I went for comfort, but still pretty. And yes, people are going to see your shoes at some point.
Mine were like $20 – a simple white slingback, flats – I’m tall already. Kicked them off for dancing, anyway!
I’m wearing shoes that one of my bridesmaids is loaning me that she wore at her wedding. They are a little bit sparkly, a little bit strappy, but not obnoxious amounts of sparkle. I’m not doing the garter thing, so nobody will see them anyway.
