You can do whatever you want :) My first wedding was a winter wedding and I actually ended up walking down the aisle with pink footies over my pantyhose.. and didn't realize it until someone saw pink sticking out from under my dress during pictures.. In all the hoopla, I had totally forgotten to put on my shoes.. :)

I am a bridal consultant and hear this from brides all day long. My best advice is go with whatever you are most comfortable in. You will be wearing them for hours and your gown is probably going to be floor length so, no one will see your shoes till you do the garter. My advice is not to wear heels for the ceremony then change your shoes for the reception....your dress will be hemmed to the height of the shoe you are wearing for the ceremony, the heel. So, when you take the heels off and put on the flats, your dress will be too long and you will find that you are picking it up to walk. Go with a cute satin balet shoe....most bridal shops should carry them. They have a lether soul so you wont get hurt if you step on a rock or something else. They are satin so they are elegant and more dressy than tennies. But like I said, go with whatever is most comfortable. You dont want to be miserable because your feet hurt!

A friend of mine whom recently got married wore "satin ballet style" slippers, they were beautiful. She dress them up them crystals and so forth, she paid about $20 for them and they were cute, inexpensive, and very comfortable.

I had a friend who decorated her own tennis shoes for her wedding -- They were adorable! She used wide-style lace for the shoestrings and then glued sparkles and such to the shoes. Her shoes were platform, white canvas tennis shoes. Remember that hardly anyone sees your feet and the most important thing is to be comfortable.

Here are some websites you could use too.

Congrats!

I have a bridal business and your concern has been brought up many times. I would suggest flat ballet type slippers. You can get them almost anywhere. You can also go with a tennis shoe if you can add some detail. If you are not the creative type, here is an easy fix. Take out the laces of a white pair of tennis shoes and add lace ribbon (you can buy this at any craft store). Then buy some flat backed crystals or pearls and some fabric glue and decorate the shoes. Hope this helps. Remember, your shoes will most likely not even show if your dress is long.
